This week’s trendsetter is no other than the fabulous Lisa Valerie Morgan! Lisa is a full time actress, producer, fashion blogger and stylist located in Los Angeles. We had the chance to interview Lisa and get to know a bit more about her. Read the full interview below!

What inspired you to start your blog?

I’m an actress and I was trying to become more active on social media as it’s become more and more important to have a social reach in our field. Fashion had always been a big part of my life and a girl I knew had a fashion blog which she talked about all the time, so I guess I just thought, why not. Looking back on it, it was pure naivete. I just jumped right in without knowing much about the industry. I’m so glad I did though! I feel like it’s changed my life in a really positive way and it’s starting to bring me a lot of opportunities I could never have imagined.

What’s your biggest tip for someone who wants to get into fashion industry?

Learn as much as you can about the industry. Develop your own personal style and be well versed in other styles, time periods, trends, etc. Do your research and try to get an internship or two if possible. And most importantly create your own opportunities. Build a social media presence so when someone searches for you they can say “Wow, that girl or guy has style! I want to work with them.”

How would you describe your own personal style?

Classic with an edge. It’s still such a hard question for me… I think being an actress I just love expressing myself and my wardrobe is such a great way to do that on a daily basis. I mix it up quite a bit. Some day’s I go for girly, glamorous and sophisticated and other days it’s more California laid back chic. I live near the beach so that has definitely affected my style as well. I think everyone gets a little bit Boho out here.

What are some of your current fashion obsessions?

Dresses, Ankle Boots and Faux Fur.

What is one thing that people would be surprised to hear?

I’ve been practicing Nichiren Buddhism for over ten years. I chant every day morning and night and my practice inspires all areas of my life including my sense of style.

Is there someone out there who inspires you fashion-wise?

So many… Olivia Palermo, Sienna Miller, Rachel Zoe and Rachel Bilson are on my list of fashion Icons. There are a few bloggers that I really Love as well. Julia Engel (Gal Meets Glam), Annabelle Fleur (VivaLuxury) and Rose Thomas (The Londoner) are my absolute favorites.

What is your favorite product from UsTrendy?

I love this Verge Girl Boho dress:

What trend do you hope stays around forever or makes a comeback?

Matching separates and rompers! Also, I am really obsessing over bag charms right now.

Where do you like to travel?

London, Scotland and New York are my favorite destinations. I’ve been to London at least twelve times in the last ten years and in Scotland there is a place called The Boath House that I consider my home away from home. I am really dying to take a trip to Japan… I’ve never been and it just looks like such a fascinating place.

What is the one thing you couldn’t live without?

My husband! Also, red wine and my smart phone.

Did you go to school for fashion or it’s just a hobby that you got into?

I went to school for screenwriting and acting. I ended up doing a lot of producing which has been great training for blogging. Two of the plays I produced were nominated for Ovation Awards for Costume Design as well as a few other categories as well. I also did costumes for some of my own roles I have played in independent projects and I’ve been the personal stylist to all of my family members for years. I had been mistaken for a professional stylist for years before I started blogging, because I always shopped with vision and purpose. As a blogger you are a stylist, a model, a content creator, a producer, a location scout, and the list goes on. I just started doing some freelance work as a stylist and the skill set is just so similar to producing and acting. You have to get into the clients or photographers head and figure out what story you are trying to tell. And then you get to tell the story through fashion so it’s just a perfect marriage of the two fields. It’s so creative and I absolutely love it! Right now I am developing a web series I wrote that partially revolves around fashion blogging which I’m really excited about! It will be another great way to bring all of these worlds together.
