This weekend I flew to New York for a quick three nights to attend the Off-Broadway opening of Heathers, The Musical at the New World Stages. It was so incredible to see how far the show had come from it’s final workshop in Los Angeles last October. A few new members joined the group and the entire cast is just perfect. I also finally got to meet Laurence O’Keefe who wrote the music for one of my other favorite shows Legally Blonde, The Musical! He wrote the book, music and lyrics to Heathers along with Kevin Murphy (Reefer Madness).
The man who started it all… longtime friend and Heather’s screenwriter, Dan Waters with the beautiful and talented Emily Bergl.
With actress friends Emily Bergl, Joanna Strapp and Abby Wilde.
After the show we all headed to John’s Pizzeria for the opening night party which said on the invitation, “walking distance from the theatre”, but was really six blocks in six inch heels. That would be considered driving distance in Los Angeles. I had so much fun catching up with friends and meeting the cast and production team that I completely forgot how much pain I was in until I went outside to get a cab back to my hotel.
Stay tuned for more about Heathers, The Musical as I will be doing interviews in the next few weeks with cast member Elle McLemore(Heather McNamara) and costumer Amy Clark.
