Happy Tuesday! My production team and I are at work finishing post-production on our pilot presentation, but in the meantime I am excited to share a behind the scenes look at our second shoot day last month. If you are new to this blog, you can catch up on my previous posts on The Exhilarating and Fashionable Life of Emmy Rose Knightley here and here.
One of the biggest challenges we faced in pre-production was finding a location for our fictional “Deli of Intolerance.” I was so excited to drive by the not yet opened The Fika Company in Redondo Beach… and even more excited when the store’s owner Andres agreed to let us transform his hip new spot into our deli for a day! He even agreed to make a cameo appearance in our pilot (see photo above). I highly recommend stopping into Fika for the best iced almond milk latte ever!
Our first shot of the day was with the lovely Armin Shimerman, who has a fun cameo role playing himself. I have known Armin for many years through my theatre company Antaeus and was so honored that he joined us for this project!
I was so excited to work with Cara Santana who is not only playing one of the lead roles on the show, but is also one of our producers. Her real life dog Shepherd, plays her character Jessica’s dog “Roxy”. He is as sweet as he looks. 🙂
Our amazing Production Designer Lila Yanow (center) and her team transformed Fika into our Deli.
Actress and blogger Daphne Blunt plays our perky waitress Geena. You can check out her awesome blog To Style With Love here.
Our Director of Photography Mykee, is always intent on getting the perfect shot.
Our Costume Designer Alyx Cohen (upper left) and her assistant Mimu Motamedi (center).
Jack Turner plays Patrick, the Deli’s head chef. Jack plays a Prince in the upcoming Hallmark Channel Movie My Summer Prince. Perfect casting don’t you think?
Makeup Artist Ksenyia Durst, touches up Carolyn in between takes.
Our Director, Rebecca Hu sets up the next scene.
Makeup and Hair Stylist Angie Bulmer gives Jack a touch up.
Blogger/Digital Influencer Sazan Hendrix makes a cameo playing herself. She absolutely killed it! It was hard to believe this was her acting debut! You can view her blog here and her YouTube channel here.
The hilarious Ashley Dulaney plays Poppy Peterson.
Amy Main (right) plays blogger Angel of “Heavenly Style”.
Such a fun day on set when your co star is this cuddly guy.
We wore Shepherd out. He was a real trooper. Especially considering this was his Hollywood debut!
